TEnder is the Heart
Tender is the Heart is a collection that adresses the idea of how can the ability to feel and love so deeply be shown in a way that communicates the difficulty, the beauty, and the intensity through silhouette? How can it embrace the beauty and the pain of loving so intensely and feeling so deeply that it can not be contained in one's body? Could it burst at the seams with love and emotion and be completely enveloped in everything you feel? These questions explore my personal familiarity of being an “overly sensitive” person throughout my life, as well as bearing my experiences of feeling and loving beyond my max capacity, but choosing to embrace the pain this causes, as it is accompanied by so many beautiful experiences.
-
The Bubble Dress: embodies my personal experience of feeling unable to contain intense emotions and love within myself. Its design features fabric that bulges and overflows, symbolizing the concept of bursting at the seams with raw emotion and love.
-
The Journal Dress: is a truly personal creation for me. It is digitally programmed and knitted, featuring six long panels. Each panel displays a different entry from my personal journals spanning several years. I transformed my own handwriting into a custom font which was then implemented into this garment.
-
The Journal Turtleneck: features three different journal entries using similar programming techniques and then being knitted out. Adorned with a plated collar; while appearing one color at rest, it reveals another shade when stretched, symbolizing vulnerability and showing or hiding one's emotions.
The Bubble Skirt: Similarly inspired by the same concept of the bubble dress but in skirt form. Bursting at the seams with love and emotion.
-
The Journal Poncho: employs the same techniques seen in the journal dress and turtleneck, showcasing different journal entries on both its front and back panels. Adding a heartfelt touch, it features a prominent heart motif on both sides, symbolizing the embrace of intense emotions and deep affection.
The Bubble Short: takes inspiration similarly to the bubble dress and skirt. The cuff on the short is inspired by the idea of wearing your heart on your sleeve as it is similar to a sleeve cuff.
This page features a look book dedicated to showcasing my garments.
Each garment in this specific project was individually created by me using Clo 3D for patterning the wovens, and digitally programming and knitting the knits on the Stoll ADF-3 Machine. The wovens were cut and sewn with precision to achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality.
